Headmaster’s blog 10/03/2023

Our School’s ambitious higher education and careers programme continues apace so, here, you can read more about last Friday’s Futures Day, which saw Year 12 enjoy a range of activities with world-leading industry experts to build their professional skills and understanding. This event followed our University Fair at Hannah House, where representatives from different institutions talked with boys in Years 10 to 13.

Returning to this week and our Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Deedat, with Mr Brennan from our Maths Department, ran a Q&A for our Oxbridge Club pupils. Next week’s Oxbridge Club will focus on application advice and college choice, led by Mr Tibbles from our English Department. In addition, we have a mock US admissions event taking place at Hannah House next Thursday, which is particularly pertinent as, here, is our profile on current Year 13, Stepan. I’m delighted to say Stepan has been accepted at the prestigious New York University to study economics this autumn, so I hope you enjoy reading about his time at Wetherby Senior and his future plans.

Since universities, especially North American colleges, put emphasis on co-curricular activities, I wanted to highlight that our School’s second sponsored spin is on Wednesday 22nd March. More details are below but last year was a great success, raising over £5,000 for charity as staff and pupils raced to be the first Trib to cycle the length of the Thames, all from the comfort of our spin studio. Boys can sign up through their Trib prefect or by speaking to Mr Thornton, while sponsorship can be made online here. Thank you in advance for your support and generosity, and good luck to all our cyclists!

Finally, I have spoken a lot of parents at different events recently, and am pleased to find that so many of you have already booked to attend The Headmaster’s Gala in May. It promises to be a super evening and I’d like to encourage others, who have yet not purchased tickets, to do so. While we remain grateful to those who have provided donations for our auction, please be assured that there is no expectation for all attendees to donate. Indeed, we would simply love to see as many of you as possible there, so we can celebrate the wonderful work of the Gold Standard Charitable Trust together.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
