At Wetherby Senior, community service helps our boys contribute positively to society. Activities range from volunteering in the local community to supporting charitable endeavours, and from participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award to taking on a leadership post at our School.
Our School’s central London location ensures boys in all year groups can take part in valuable and important volunteering opportunities to help the immediate local community or across the city. In 2022, this has included our boys visiting nearby Marylebone Library to help older people learn how to better use their digital devices, and our boys volunteering to support children’s learning and London primary schools.
Our School Council has agreed to support three very deserving charities for the current academic year, with a number of fundraising activities taking place that enable our boys to raise money, to learn more about issues facing the world today, and to have fun.
Participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award remains popular at Wetherby Senior. This well-respected and challenging programme can be completed at three levels – Bronze, Silver or Gold. The DoE Award is achieved by completing a personal progamme of activities in numerous sections – volunteering in the local community, physical, skills, and expedition, and then, for Gold, a residential. It provides an excellent opportunity for our young people to enhance their teamwork, organisation and leadership skills.
Wetherby Senior’s leadership opportunities help us to develop our boys beyond their academic studies, so all contribute positively to society while building valuable skills and experience. As boys progress through Wetherby Senior, there are many leadership opportunities, from School Council to Middle School Ambassador, culminating in the Sixth Form roles of Head Boy and Deputy Head Boy, and prefect positions.
For our sixth formers, leadership opportunities enable our boys to support our School whilst developing important transferable skills (such as public speaking) that are useful in any future career. In Year 12, our sixth formers apply for these one-year leadership roles, which include Head Boy, Deputy Head Boy, and prefects. Responsibilities for these roles include helping with open events, as well as supporting life within our Sixth Form and across our School.
