Academic excellence is central to life at Wetherby Senior School. Our boys are encouraged – academically and socially – to realise their full potential, which is proudly reflected in the places our alumni hold at top universities in the UK and overseas.
At Wetherby Senior, our rigorous curriculum is taught by subject specialists and, alongside use of our School’s outstanding facilities, will build your son’s knowledge and understanding during his years at Marylebone.
Below, you can hear more from our Head of Maths, our Head of English and Head of Music about study and life in their departments at Wetherby Senior.
Our fascinating and rewarding Lower School curriculum provides a solid foundation for future studies. It will involve some subjects familiar to your son and introduce some new ones! For example, all in Year 7 learn to play a brass or string instrument, with teaching supported by professional brass players who regularly perform with Europe’s best orchestras and bands.
Our dynamic Middle School curriculum takes into consideration that preparation for GCSE studies can seem daunting, so staff provide a structured programme of support for decision making around options. This will help your son reflect on his strengths and select GCSE subjects that he is passionate about.
Within our Sixth Form, our class sizes remain small. Your son will study three A Levels and his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), a highly respected independent research project on a topic of his choosing. Some boys also opt to study a fourth A Level.
Wetherby Senior opens at 8am for pupils, with registration between 8:25am and 8:35am. We then have six periods of lessons a day, each lasting an hour, as well as a thirty-minute tutor period on a Friday.
We have a mid-morning break of fifteen minutes and a lunch break of fifty-five minutes. Lunch break and our Friday activities slot allow for pupils to engage in a wide range of co-curricular activities. Games is timetabled in two sessions each week, while assembly is held on a Friday afternoon.
See for yourself by registering to join our Open Day or Visitor Mornings.
