“I joined Wetherby Senior in Year 9, and I am studying for my A Levels in Biology, Economics and Maths within our Sixth Form. I applied to US universities and this process differs greatly to UK universities. Writing my admissions essays was rather time-consuming but I have also found it to be very rewarding, as I had to reflect upon myself and my achievements in a very positive way.

“Wetherby Senior staff have been incredibly supportive of my plans to study in the USA and Mrs Deedat, our Head of Sixth Form, has been a great help, particularly when I was preparing to submit all my applications. In addition, our School’s two US Studies Advisors met with me weekly, throughout my time in our Sixth Form, to offer advice and guidance. It is always helpful to have someone to talk to about your applications, but their specialist knowledge and expertise has been invaluable.

“To anyone thinking of applying to study in the US – don’t forget how important your co-curricular activities are! I am currently an editor of The Barometer (our School’s pupil-led magazine) and have written articles for every edition since my time in Year 10. I run my own co-curricular club on a Friday – motorsports – which is a fantastic opportunity for interested pupils to meet and have lively discussions, mainly about the Formula One! I am also a peer mentor at our School and an active member of our Sixth Form’s prefect team.

“As well as allowing me to be fully involved in the life of Wetherby Senior, all these activities have built valuable skills and experiences that are useful for future university applications, and particularly so for North American colleges”.
