Boys join Wetherby Senior’s Lower School in Year 7 (11+ entry) and are immediately made to feel part of our community.
Hear more from our Assistant Head: Head of Lower School on academic studies, wellbeing, and co-curricular opportunities within Years 7 and 8 at Wetherby Senior.
As the change from primary to secondary school can seem daunting, Wetherby Senior has an experienced Lower School team (which includes our Head of Lower School, Assistant Head of Lower School and form tutors) who work hard to provide a smooth transition.
We start our Autumn Term with an induction morning, so our new Year 7 get to know their tutor (who will stay with them for Years 7 and 8) and others in their form, while familiarising themselves with our School’s two buildings. Each boy will join one of our five Tribs, as our house system is known, and we schedule a Year 7 residential trip in early September, meaning pupils make friends through this shared enjoyable experience.
Our fascinating and rewarding Lower School curriculum, taught by subject specialists, provides a solid foundation for future studies. It will involve some familiar subjects and introduce some new ones! For example, all in Year 7 learn to play a brass or string instrument, with teaching supported by professional brass players who regularly perform with Europe’s best orchestras and bands.
Below, you can hear more from our Head of Maths, our Head of English and Head of Music about study and life in their departments at Wetherby Senior.
