Fair dinkum food

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been dining Down Under, as part of our School’s innovative Liberal Studies programme.

Thanks to our Biology Department’s Ms Johnson, a group of Year 12 are undertaking a course entitled Australian Cooking. Originally from Melbourne, Ms Johnson has been teaching boys to prepare some of the dishes that she remembers fondly from her own childhood.

Ms Johnson explains: “This week, our young chefs made Cheesy Vegemite Scrolls. They were initially quite nervous about eating Vegemite but, once they tried the scrolls, they loved them. In fact, they all wanted to come back later that day and make more!

“Last week, we made ANZAC biscuits, which went down very well too. However the boys said the Cheesy Vegemite Scrolls were even better.”

Ms Johnson is planning to get boys to make a savoury dish (cob loaf) and a dessert option with Tim Tam Cheesecake in her future Australian Cooking classes.

Wetherby Senior’s Liberal Studies options help our sixth formers extend their learning beyond the A Level curriculum, building their skills and knowledge. Our Liberal Studies classes, which change each term, mean boys can explore subjects linked to a university course that interests them or examine topics linked to their A Level studies and life beyond our Sixth Form.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
