Headmaster’s blog 08/09/2023

Our first full week back in Marylebone has seen a return to summer uniform, thanks to the glorious sunshine. As our boys have settled back into the academic routine, we also enjoyed a smooth start with the use of Yondr pouches to store mobile phones during the day. I look forward to sharing a further update about this initiative next week.

It was lovely to meet some of our newest parents this week, as we discussed arrangements for our forthcoming residential trips (Year 9 head to Dorset on Wednesday 13th September and Year 7 to the Isle of Wight on Wednesday 20th September). I’m sure both cohorts will enjoy their time away, building new friendships and sharing exciting new experiences with their peers.

Our lunchtime and after-school clubs start next week, along with Friday activities, so please remind your son to sign up via his SOCS account. Today’s activities fair outlined our co-curricular opportunities and Hannah House Hall was buzzing with pupils when I called in earlier. I saw Mr Dimitriadis, a new member of our Mathematics Department, surrounded by pupils keen to play backgammon, while Mr Oxley’s Junior Science Club was proving as popular as ever and interest in Model United Nations remained high, which bodes well for our first conference. In addition, our Head of Careers will shortly be accepting applications from sixth formers for our highly successful ethical leadership course, and for the ever-popular Young Enterprise.

Last but by no means least, Wetherby Senior has been named a finalist for the London Independent School of the Year Award. This wonderful achievement means our School will now compete against a handful of other London institutions which all have a considerably longer history than we do. I am delighted that the hard work undertaken by all at our School, since opening in 2015, to maximise the benefits of our London location for our boys has been recognised with this prestigious award.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
