Headmaster’s blog 24/02/2023

I trust everyone had a pleasant half-term holiday.

Following feedback from staff and pupils, it seems clear our older boys had an amazing time on our skiing trip to Panorama, Canada. If you haven’t already, please head to our School’s Instagram account and have a peak at the brilliant footage, shot by our pupils, of their fantastic experience.

This week saw Year 9 pupils and parents on-site for our parents’ evening on Wednesday, then we welcomed prospective Year 7 pupils and their families to Marylebone on Thursday. This coffee morning with a Q&A session enabled our 11+ offer holders to hear more about life at Wetherby Senior, as they decide upon a secondary school place. All of you will have been through a variant of this process, some more recently than others, so I’m sure you can appreciate how important these opportunities are when making such decisions.

While our current Year 13 continue to hear from universities about their recent applications (and I’m delighted we can feature Guillaume, who is planning to read pharmacy), we are also looking ahead for our younger boys. Our annual university fair takes place next Thursday and is a fantastic opportunity for those in Years 10-13, plus their parents, to meet representatives from over 30 institutions, covering the UK, continental Europe and North America. Please note that this event will run from 5pm-7pm at Hannah House Hall. You can sign up to attend here.

Next week will also include musical performances with Wednesday’s Spring Recital, a number of exciting fixtures for our sports teams, and our usual lessons and co-curricular activities, as we settle back into the rhythm of our Spring Term.

Looking further ahead, preparations are rapidly progressing for The Headmaster’s Gala on Friday 12th May. Taking place at The Landmark Hotel, this event is to raise funds for the Gold Standard Charitable Trust, enabling boys from less privileged backgrounds to attend our wonderful School. It promises to be a fabulous evening with a silent auction (if any parents wish to donate an item, holiday, or experience for this auction, then please contact me directly), live entertainment and more. Parents can buy individual tickets, reserve an entire table or sponsor a teacher’s place, so please check your invitation via Paperless Post for more information. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
