Headmaster’s blog 20/01/22

I’d like to start this week’s newsletter by praising our Years 11 and 13 for their hard work, over the last fortnight, in their mock exams. Behaviour and conduct have been excellent, and I know our Sixth Form team, led by Mrs Deedat, and our Middle School team, led by Ms Dodson, alongside Mr Carey and Mr Malone, would like to say well done to all our boys too.

While this present cold snap may make you wish to shelter at home, I do advise venturing to many of our different events this term, all designed to support your son’s educational journey, and his future university and career plans.

Firstly, we have our Year 9 GCSE Options Evening for parents on Tuesday 24th January, which will outline the subjects available to your son at this exciting stage in his education. We then have our Careers and Canapes for Year 11 parents on Thursday 26th January. Our dynamic Head of Careers, Ms Holmes, has arranged an event that provides a valuable insight into our work experience programme and our work placement process, plus a preview of the many professional development opportunities which await our boys once in Year 12. Please check SchoolPost for the letters regarding both events and RSVP accordingly.

A reminder that our university guidance for both pupils and parents is ongoing, and we have a number of activities taking place this term. For those who missed it, our US Advisor ran a fantastic twilight session on applying to North America with Year 12 pupils and parents on Tuesday, and all resources and the recording can be found on Firefly (see Twilight Sessions — Wetherby Senior School).

In addition, we have a US Mock Admissions event taking place in March to help pupils and parents learn more about applying Stateside. As our current Year 13 continue to hear about the status of their own university applications, I’m delighted that we can feature our current Head Boy, Matteo, in this week’s newsletter. I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating Matteo on being accepted to the University of Pennsylvania, a top Ivy League institution, and I’m sure you will enjoy reading his profile.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
