Class of 23 – Matteo

Year 13, Matteo, has been accepted by the Ivy League institution, University of Pennsylvania, to read materials science and engineering.

“I joined Wetherby Senior in Year 9. I have always had a passion for subjects like mathematics, physics and chemistry so, when I started to think about university, the interdisciplinary approach of US colleges really appealed. I like how it enables you to study a broader range of topics, instead of specialising early, and I know a prestigious institution (like Penn) will draw on knowledge and expertise from across its School of Engineering and Applied Science, which will further enhance my learning and educational experience.

“The US admissions system is so different to the UK, and I feel very lucky to have had Wetherby Senior staff to support and guide me. During Year 12, our US Advisor offered great advice on different universities, plus an invaluable insight into what colleges were looking for in application essays. In addition, Wetherby Senior’s relatively small class sizes (particularly within our Sixth Form) mean I’ve built great relationships with my class teachers, so they were happy to write my references.

“I’ve had a fantastic time at Wetherby Senior and have been given so many opportunities – from being Head Boy to taking part in sport. However, one of my favourite memories from my years in Marylebone will be performing in our School plays. In Year 9, I took part in Trib Drama, never thinking I would love this experience so much that I’d star in future productions and, eventually, take on a large role in our Upper School Drama play, in my final year at Wetherby Senior!”
