How to Apply

Wetherby Senior School is an academically selective school. Our usual points of entry are at 11+, 13+ or 16+. Selection is based upon academic merit which is assessed through an entry examination, references from the candidate’s previous school and interview. Our selection process is designed to identify pupils who are able to benefit from our balanced and well-rounded education and to make a positive contribution towards the life of the School.

In response to Covid-19, we are making some changes to our 11+ admissions process this year. The changes we are making are designed to make this process as straightforward as possible for boys and their families whilst prioritising the health and wellbeing of all candidates.

Every boy applying to Wetherby Senior School for 11+ entry in September 2021 will be required to take the ISEB Common Pre-Test.  This is a respected and widely used online test for children moving from primary or prep schools to selective secondary schools. The test assesses the English and Mathematics content covered in the National Curriculum up to the end of Year 5 as well as verbal and non-verbal reasoning.

A number of independent schools are also using the ISEB Common Pre-Test for 11+ assessment and by synchronising our approach with other schools, it means your son will have fewer assessments to sit as every school your son has registered for will be able to access the results. This will make for a smoother process in what has already been a challenging year.

Candidates can sit the test at their current school and we request that it is completed by Friday 18th December 2020. For candidates who are unable to sit the test in their own school only we will host candidates on Monday 14th December 2020.

ISEB Common Pre-Test access codes will be sent to your son’s current school over the next few weeks.  Should your son require a hosted test, please contact our Registrar, Ms Kathryn Easthope ( by Tuesday 1st December 2020 to arrange an assessment time. The interviews will take place as planned on Saturday 16th January 2020 and further information will be issued in early January.

The deadline for registration for 11+ entry in September 2021 is now closed. Dates for 11+ entry in September 2022 will be advised shortly.

The 13+ assessments will be held in the autumn of Year 6 through the ISEB Common Pre-Test and then interview. Registration for 13+ admission 2023 is now closed. Please contact the Registrar ( for information on our waiting list places.

The 16+ assessment day will be held in the autumn term of Year 11. Boys will be interviewed and examined in the subjects they wish to study for A Level. Registration deadline for 16+ admission 2021 is now closed.

A registration form can be found at the bottom of this page. Please contact the Registrar ( for registration fee payment details.

We may also have occasional places at other ages. Please contact the School for details. All registered parents are informed by letter of the key dates for the entry process at the start of the Autumn Term. We will usually offer places to candidates from our waiting list after the closing date for acceptances.

Fluency in English

In order to fully access the curriculum and to play a full part in the life of Wetherby Senior School, prospective pupils must have a good level of written and spoken English, or demonstrate the aptitude to acquire it quickly. Normally pupils should have been educated in the English medium for at least 3 years before coming to the school; tuition in English as an Additional Language (EAL) can be arranged (at additional cost) to support boys that require it.

Equal Treatment

Wetherby Senior School is fully committed to our legal and moral obligation to treat all applicants equally, regardless of a candidate’s race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or social background.
