Tim Tam-tastic treats

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have used an iconic and beloved Australian biscuit to make a tasty cheesecake.

As part of our School’s innovate Liberal Studies programme, some sixth formers have been undertaking Australian Cooking, taught by our Biology Department’s Ms Johnson. Originally from Melbourne, Ms Johnson has been getting boys to prepare dishes that she remembers fondly from her own childhood so, this week, they created Tim Tam Cheesecake.

Ms Johnson explained: “Our Tim Tam Cheesecake recipe ensured you had a creamy and smooth cheesecake with a tasty Tim Tam crust – absolutely delicious!

“Interestingly, the man who invented Tim Tams actually visited the UK in 1958 and tried a Penguin  biscuit, then went back to Australia to make what we Australians consider to be a much better version – Tim Tams! And I’m delighted to say that I have now converted our Year 12, who all much prefer Tim Tams to Penguins, particularly the caramel Tim Tams option.”

Ms Johnson’s class will finish this term by making the classic Australian Christmas dessert of Chocolate Ripple Cake and Rum Balls, although Ms Johnson is quick to add that it will not actually contain rum!

Wetherby Senior’s Liberal Studies options help our sixth formers extend their learning beyond the A Level curriculum, building their skills and knowledge. Our Liberal Studies classes, which change each term, mean boys can explore subjects linked to a university course that interests them or examine topics linked to their A Level studies and life beyond our Sixth Form.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
