While an exact date for the UK’s next general election remains uncertain, Wetherby Senior pupils voted for our School’s new Prime Minister.
Members of Year 12 had been running a tough and hard fought election campaign to become the Prime Minister of Wetherby Senior. With three political parties to choose from – Wetherby People’s Party (James S), Things Are Already Pretty Good Party (Benji B), and Change Now (Andrey T) – candidates canvassed tutor groups and displayed posters around our School to generate interest in and understanding of this election.
Mr Smith, from our Politics Department, explains: “We asked our A Level Politics class to organise this election to help our young people learn more about democracy in the UK. This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to learn, from our very enthusiastic sixth formers, about the voting process and how elections work in this country.
“We temporarily transformed Hannah House Hall into a polling station and saw a good turnout, with over 200 boys voting. Wetherby People’s Party won 53% of the vote, meaning James S takes on the role of Prime Minister at Wetherby Senior.”
The UK’s next general election is scheduled to be held no later than January 2025 and will determine the composition of the House of Commons and the next Government.
