Headmaster’s blog 03/11/2023

Our second part of the Autumn Term is now well underway, and the next few weeks will be busy with higher education planning and university applications for our sixth formers. While this may feel more real for our current Year 13, our Year 12 should continue to use this time to get advice and guidance that can aid their future planning. Indeed, I was delighted to see our School’s support for applications to Canadian colleges featured in Talk Education this week, and you can read their article here. [VG link]

This Talk Education piece was particularly timely as our US Advisor, Ms Gagnon, will lead an online event at 5pm on Monday about studying Canada, with admissions staff from three top universities – McGill University, University of Toronto, and the University of British Columbia. Any of our boys thinking of future study in the land of ice hockey, poutine, and the great outdoors should join to hear more about admissions requirements, programmes of study, and student life in Canada. Further information and a booking link can be found here.

We have a number of interesting and inspiring stories in this week’s newsletter, and I particularly hope you enjoy reading about our Geography Department’s trip to Crete during the recent half-term holiday. Oscar’s descriptions of sunshine, swimming in the sea and spectacular Greek food, alongside a picture of our boys beneath a blazing blue sky, is just what we need at the start of what looks likely to be a wet weekend for many of us!

Finally, a quick reminder that Wetherby Senior is a nut-free school. This means our kitchens source ingredients and products from suppliers who guarantee that nuts and nut oils are not used in their production and handling processes. We are grateful for the continued support by all in our community in ensuring that Wetherby Senior remains nut-free and ask that our parents and boys remember this when choosing any snacks to bring in.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
