Headmaster’s blog 13/10/2023

This week has been challenging for many members of our community and, as I write this looking forward to half-term, I remain acutely aware of those with direct family links, or shared religious or cultural links, to the attacks last weekend in Israel. We have seen many shocking images since then and, further to my letter to parents and after speaking to all boys this week, I would like to re-state my offer of support to any pupil who is in any way affected by what is happening. I also hope that our young people have been offering support to one another where needed.

As we reach the halfway mark of this first term, I’m delighted at how these weeks have flown by with so much taking place alongside our usual lessons and co-curricular activities. Following a quick glance through the news stories on our website, I wanted to highlight a few outstanding examples from the last six weeks here: boys have enjoyed residential trips to the south coast and showcased their sporting prowess on the ski slopes, boys have put away their mobiles via our Yondr pouches and picked awards at our prize-giving ceremony, and boys have enjoyed inspiring careers talks and continued to receive strong university guidance as their respective application deadlines loom.

Last Friday’s non-uniform day is another excellent example of the fantastic work that has taken place since we returned to Marylebone in September. This event was suggested by boys to raise funds to support relief efforts following the disasters in Morocco and Libya, and it has ended up being our most successful yet, with more than £1,000 collected. Thank you to all involved for their generosity and support.

A reminder that half-term runs for two weeks, with boys and staff expected back in Marylebone on Monday 30th October. Our new edition of The Barometer is out now so do enjoy reading that over the holiday.
