Amazing autumnal acoustics

Wetherby Senior’s Autumn Recital offered a captivating blend of classical and contemporary pieces that strongly showcased the diverse talents of our young people.

Mr Martin, Director of Music, is delighted to report on how our packed audience were thoroughly entertained by pupils from across our School on Wednesday:

“Our evening began with Iggy B, who set a nostalgic tone with his emotive rendition of the Forrest Gump theme. His performance beautifully captured the essence of the iconic movie soundtrack, evoking memories for the audience. Following this, Alexander L’s Sneaky Business added an element of intrigue to the concert. His composition was marked by a playful and mysterious quality.

“Mohammed AH took the stage next, delivering a lively and energetic performance of Hungarian Stomp by Pam Wedgewood. This was a captivating journey through Hungarian-inspired rhythms and melodies, demonstrating his skills. Adam H’s rendition of Where is Love from Oliver provided a poignant moment in our concert. His expressive singing and emotional delivery tugged at the heartstrings of the audience, creating a touching and memorable performance.

“Paul B’s interpretation of Your Song by Elton John paid tribute to a pop music classic. His rendition captured the essence of the song’s lyrics and melody, delighting our audience. Next up was Alex LD’s performance of Presto by Thomas Arne, which highlighted his technical mastery and precision. The piece was a strong display of speed and dexterity, greatly impressing the listeners.

“Ivo’s vocal performance of How Beautiful Are The Feet, by Handel, added depth and richness, as Ivo sang with a beautiful pure tone and demonstrated a graceful interpretation. Lukas A’s performance of the first movement of Breval’s Sonata in C was then a display of cello skill. His mastery of the instrument and musical interpretation were evident, creating a memorable musical moment.

“Ihsan’s piano performance of Lavender Field, by Tanaka, and Solfeggietto, by Bach, showcased his versatility, seamlessly transitioning from contemporary to classical compositions with finesse. Kian’s violin rendition of Bach’s Mer hahn On neue Oberkeet was an enjoyable moment in the evening, displaying his technical skills and interpretation of Bach’s work with commendable skill.

“Our concert took a collaborative turn with duets by Samar and Kian. These ensemble pieces added a dynamic dimension to our evening, executed with precision and harmony, providing a delightful contrast to our solo performances.

“Daniel H’s performance of Bach’s Invention in A added a touch of elegance, demonstrating his piano virtuosity and command of the work, while Ettore T’s rendition of The Swan, by Saint-Saën,s on the cello was a breathtaking performance. His expressive playing and resonant tones created a moving and memorable musical experience.

“Finally Li M’s interpretation of Chopin’s Waltz in A Minor was a charming addition, with his delicate and emotive piano playing leaving a lasting impression, and Jamie B’s clarinet rendition of Saint-Saëns Clarinet Sonata Op. 167 Mvt 1 saw his expressive playing effectively convey the nuances of the composition, leaving our audience with a sense of awe and appreciation for the world of music.

“In conclusion, our Autumn Recital was a resounding success, showcasing the immense talent of our performers and offering a diverse musical journey that ensured our audience enjoyed a lasting musical experience and an evening to remember.”
