Caring in Costa Rica

Three Wetherby Senior pupils have taken part in challenging and compassionate community service work in central America.

Gabriel, Saif and Samuel, all now in Year 11, travelled to Costa Rica over the summer. They spent a week taking part in a community infrastructure project, gaining practical skills and hands-on experience while supporting a great cause.

Saif explains: “During our time in Costa Rica, we helped build the walls and outside infrastructure of a school, and we were involved in environmental work, like cleaning out weeds and planting trees nearby. Whilst it was hard adapting to the manual work that we were undertaking, it provided a fascinating insight in how less developed countries operate, especially in comparison to what we are used to – a more urbanised and bustling city like London.

“Participating in this community service camp was a great way to build empathy and social responsibility, as well as give back to the community. I found the experience to be unforgettable and it truly cultivated a greater affinity, in me, for the world around us.”

Costa Rica is central American country with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific, well known for its beaches, rainforests and biodiversity.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
