Researching the Rossettis

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have explored the romance and radicalism of the famous Rossetti family at an innovative London exhibition.

As part of their A Level English Literature, Mr Chidell took Year 13 to Tate Britain’s The Rossetti exhibition. This stunning and immersive show uses spoken poetry, drawings, paintings, photography, design and more to examine the famous Rossetti generation.

Mr Chidell, from our English Department, said: “Our sixth formers are studying Christina Rossetti for their Drama and Poetry paper, so this was a brilliant opportunity to delve deeper into her work.

“We all enjoyed visiting the Tate Britain and found it fascinating to stand at particular points in the gallery and hear readings of the poems that we have studied in class.”

Tate Britain’s exhibition is the largest showing of Dante Gabriel Rossetti iconic pictures in twenty years and includes a comprehensive exhibition of Elizabeth Siddal’s work, featuring rare surviving watercolours and important drawings. Running until 24th September, it also takes a new look at the myths around the unconventional relationships between Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Elizabeth Siddal, Fanny Cornforth and Jane Morris.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
