Our magnificent seven

Wetherby Senior pupil, Luke, hit the ground running this week, racing magnificently in the ISA National Athletics Competition.

Following his tremendous time at last month’s ISA Athletics Competition in Bedford, Luke was invited to compete in the ISA National Athletics Competition at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. Currently in Year 8 at Wetherby Senior, Luke took part in the 1500m race against boys from across the UK and performed brilliantly, coming seventh with a phenomenal time of 04:58:04.

Mr Stokoe, from Wetherby Senior’s Sport Department, accompanied Luke to the event. He said: “Luke had been waiting for this competition for a couple of weeks and, when the day finally came, his performance was excellent. He prepared extremely well beforehand with a thorough warm-up, getting his mind and body e ready. His pacing was fantastic and his acceleration, coupled with his determination to finish strongly, meant he competed at his maximum level.

“Well done to Luke for such a great time and for showing such resilience in a race against some tough athletes. Not only was his performance excellent but the way he conducted himself was outstanding. All at Wetherby Senior are so proud of his achievements and our Sport Department looks forward to taking him to more athletic competitions next year.”

Congratulations Luke, Wetherby Senior’s Athlete of the Week, on such a magnificent result.
