A wicked day out

Don’t turn green with envy – Wetherby Senior’s Year 7 watched one of London’s most popular theatre productions last week.

As part of Wednesday’s Field Day, our youngest cohort enjoyed a special acting workshop at our Marylebone Lane Drama Studio, before flying off to the Apollo Victoria Theatre to see Wicked.

Ms Vickers, Head of Drama at Wetherby Senior, explained: “Year 7’s exciting acting workshop was taught by industry professionals, so our boys learned more about the context of the hit musical, Wicked. They also got to undertake fun and challenging improvisation tasks, acting as different characters from Wicked.

“We then went to the matinee showing of Wicked, so our boys saw how the performance skills they learn at Wetherby Senior, in both their drama and music lessons, are used by actors in a professional theatre environment.”

The musical, Wicked, is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire, which is, in turn, based on L Frank Baum’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 MGM film adaptation. Now an award-winning and successful show, it is told from the perspective of, and focuses on, the witches of the Land of Oz, both before and after Dorothy arrives from Kansas.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
