An economic argument
Wetherby Senior pupils have enjoyed a fascinating and topical debate, led by world-leading experts in their field, on economic growth.
Last Friday, a group of boys headed to London’s Southbank Centre to hear another inspiring Intelligence Squared debate. This time the discussion – “Can we have prosperity without growth?” – was moderated by journalist Kamal Ahmed, with speakers from politics, economics, and academia.
Ms Holmes, Head of Careers, explained: “It was amazing to witness this fascinating discussion between Kate Raworth (an economist and author of Doughnut Economics: Seven Ways to Think Like a 21st-Century Economist), Professor Helen Thompson (an expert in political economy based at Cambridge University and author of Disorder: Hard Times in the 21st Century) and Bim Afolami, the Conservative MP for Hitchin and Harpenden.
“After the debate, our boys had an opportunity to ask the panel questions and get signed copies of their books. It was a wonderful to attend such an insightful and thought provoking event – thank you to Intelligence Squared for inviting us!”
Intelligence Squared offers agenda-setting talks and discussions with some of the world’s greatest minds and orators. Having previously attended an Intelligence Squared debate on Bach v Beethoven, Wetherby Senior pupils are now looking forward to hearing from former FBI director, James Comey, next month.
