Bach v Beethoven

Wetherby Senior pupils had an ear for music and discussion this week, attending a fantastic debate on the greatest composer – Bach or Beethoven.

Our Head of Careers, Ms Holmes, took pupils to Cadogan Hall, to hear from Steven Isserlis (who made the argument for Bach) and Norman Lebrecht (who made the argument for Beethoven). A brilliant cellist, Steven Isserlis also played some beautiful pieces of Bach’s music, accompanied by the amazing Mishka Rushdie Momen on piano.

Ms Holmes said: “This was a passionate, inspired debate that was so enjoyable to witness, and we learned so much about both composers, as well about music and history. It was wonderful to watch two fantastic experts in their field give this masterclass in debating.

“Thank you to Mr Matthew McAllester and Intelligence Squared for inviting us – we all had a wonderful experience!”
