Trib Drama triumph

Wetherby Senior’s annual Inter-Trib Drama competition saw boys star in an exciting whodunnit – Cockroaches – with an external judge assessing their hard work and creativity.

Written specifically for Wetherby Senior, to ensure each scene was balanced, Cockroaches saw our boys acting within a prison overrun by cockroaches. Our Tribs had been preparing for opening night, which took place in our Marylebone Lane Drama Studio before Easter, throughout our Spring Term. Each Trib selected their own director, assistant director, and actors at the start of term, with rehearsals then taking place every Friday.

Ms Twomey, Head of Drama at Wetherby Senior, said: “We had almost 50 boys, from across our five Tribs, take part in this year’s competition and I’m very proud of the dedication and commitment shown. I’d also like to thank the Head of Drama at Francis Holland School for taking the time to judge our Inter-Trib Drama competition.”

Following a dress rehearsal and first performance on Monday 27th March, our Tribs had a further 48 hours to improve their scene before their final performance, in front of an external judge, on Thursday.

Ms Twomey added: “Congratulations to Maani N, from Fleet, who was awarded Best Director; Oscar F, from Fleet, who was named Most Engaging Actor, and Matteo M, from Ravensbourne, who was awarded Best Characterisation.

“Following Thursday’s performance, our judge’s verdict was:
5th place – Tyburn
4th place – Walbrook
3rd place – Effra
2nd place – Fleet
1st place – Ravensbourne.”

Wetherby Senior’s Inter-Trib Drama competition sees each Trib perform a different scene from a purpose-written play. The production is entirely pupil-led, enabling boys to develop their dramatic skills, both on- and off-stage.
