Headmaster’s blog 31/03/2023

As we reach the Easter holiday, it is timely to reflect on the achievements of our Spring Term, which have included success in academic studies, in our extensive co-curricular activities, and in our charitable endeavours. It has been fantastic to see our boys building their own knowledge, skills, and experience by getting so involved in so many wonderful aspects of life at Wetherby Senior, and I hope that you enjoy reading our review of this term, below.

Throughout our Spring Term, we have heard much about the accomplishments of our current Year 13 cohort, as boys have been securing offers for top universities across the UK, continental Europe, and North America. We have featured profiles of a number of these successful sixth formers on our website this term, and will continue to do so next term. These have been a lovely way to celebrate their achievements, whilst also hearing their thoughts on their time at Wetherby Senior, as they prepare to move on to the next stage in their academic journey.

Last week’s Prefect Dinner also saw boys reflecting on their years in Marylebone, and discussing their future plans, while Zachary (who holds offers for a number of top Russell Group universities) talked fondly in his profile (below) of how our Trib system has become more robust during his time at Wetherby Senior, providing a strong backbone to our School. This seems particularly fitting as this week has involved a number of inter-Trib events, with football and rugby matches, and Trib Drama. Cockroaches, our pupil-led production, made excellent use of our School’s Drama Studio and congratulations to our winning Trib – Ravensbourne. We will have a full news story about Trib Drama after the holiday.

The latest edition of The Barometer is out today, with articles that will take you from the Canadian ski slopes to London theatres, and from the history of the submarine to the band behind Yellow Submarine. Please click here to read it online during the break.

In addition, if your son is out and about with a camera over Easter, then he may want to take part in our Marcos Burnett Photography Competition. With a theme of ‘Spring’, our popular annual photography competition remembers former pupil, Marcos, who was passionate about photography and nature, and whose life was cut tragically short by the 2016 Italian earthquake. Entries are welcome from all year groups and submissions should be given to our Art Department after the holiday.

We have an early finish today, with boys leaving after assembly. As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, I expect our exam cohorts to use the forthcoming break wisely, in order to prepare for their exams, and I hope that all in our community (pupils, staff and parents) have an enjoyable holiday, returning refreshed and ready for our Summer Term. A reminder that boys are expected back in Marylebone on Tuesday 17th April.

Wish best wishes for the Easter holiday.
