Robots in LEGO disguise

Wetherby Senior pupils had an awesome experience at the first LEGO League Robotics Competition last weekend.

Eight Year 7 boys took part in the London regional competition, where they faced a number of different challenges involving the popular building bricks.

Ms Walters, Assistant Head: Co-curricular, explains: “Our pupils had to design, build, and programme a LEGO robot to complete a series of tasks in two and a half minutes. They also had to create an innovation project on the topic of renewable resources and sustainability, which saw our boys develop the idea of using a self-healing polymer that could coat ships hulls, in order to prevent oil spills and leaks.

“Our Year 7 pupils performed brilliantly together, coming sixth in the robot game competition, and receiving the ‘Core Values’ award for their teamwork and enthusiasm. Well done!”

The LEGO League Robotics Competition introduces science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) topics to young people through exciting hands-on learning. It encourages participants to build their STEM knowledge, while developing their skills, confidence, and teamwork abilities through participation in this fun event.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.

Wetherby Senior’s Autumn Term 2023 has been filled with accomplishments and achievements by our amazing School community.
