Dramatic developments

From anarchists to orgres, it has been a dramatic time for actors and theatre fans at Wetherby Senior!

Last weekend saw current Year 7 pupil, Thomas, take the lead role in Stagecoach Fulham’s spring show, Shrek the Musical JR. As well as enjoying LAMDA lessons at Wetherby Senior, Thomas takes part in Stagecoach classes outside of school, and he was delighted to get the main part in their most recent production.

As you can see, below, Thomas looked fantastic in his Shrek costume. He mastered the distinctive Scottish accent needed for the role and last weekend’s production was a great (green) success!

While Thomas was preparing for his own opening night, Wetherby Senior’s Head of Drama took a group of prospective A Level Drama pupils to enjoy Accidental Death of an Anarchist at the Lyric Hammersmith. This razor-sharp satire has been adapted by Tom Basden to relocate Dario Fo’s classic farce to contemporary London, and Ms Twomey was keen for boys enjoy a stage version since the work can be studied as part of their future A Level curriculum.

Christos, currently in Year 11, said: “The actor playing The Maniac (Daniel Rigby) was extremely comical. His character would constantly break the fourth wall and inform the audience about his plans to expose the police force, allowing us to be in on the joke.

“Overall, I found the experience highly enjoyable, and I would definitely recommend the production to anyone who is in the need of a good laugh!”

Finally, rehearsals remain well underway for our Trib Drama production – Cockroaches. Taking place in our Marylebone Lane Drama Studio, on Monday 27th and Thursday 30th March, Cockroaches sees each Trib perform a different scene, having selected their own director, assistant director and actors. As an entirely pupil-led production, it enables boys to develop their dramatic skills while competing to win Trib points, since Cockroaches will be judged by the Head of Drama at Francis Holland School.

A reminder that the last few tickets for next week’s Trib Drama are available on ParentPay. Book now to avoid later disappointment!
