Paperback writers

To mark World Book Week, Wetherby Senior pupils heard from a published author, and submitted their own work for him to judge, as part of our School’s creative writing competition.

London-based writer, Michael Mann, visited Marylebone on Monday, giving a fascinating and insightful talk to Years 7 and 8 about the inspirations and writing process behind his first novel, Ghostcloud.

Mr Munday, Wetherby Senior’s librarian, said: “Our boys loved hearing from Michael, and a number of pupils then purchased signed copies of his books and asked him more questions.

“Michael has now kindly offered to judge our School’s creative writing competition, which is obviously a brilliant opportunity for our budding young writers to get feedback from a published author. Michael will be recording a video with his results shortly, and we’re very grateful to him for taking the time to review the creative writing efforts of our boys.”

Named one of Waterstones Best Children’s Books of 2021, Ghostcloud is a wildly imaginative tale about friendship, courage and finding your freedom against all odds. Michael’s second novel, Nightspark, which concludes his Ghostcloud duology, was published last month. For more information about Michael and his writing, please visit his website.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
