Going swimmingly

Congratulations to Wetherby Senior pupil, Alexander, on his swimming success, which includes being ranked fifth in Great Britain for his age.

Current Year 7, Alexander, was awarded the Ted Sayor Memorial Trophy for being the top boy with the best individual performance during the Middlesex County Championships 2022. He is now taking part in the Middlesex County Championships 2023 (ongoing until mid-February) and has already achieved a gold medal for his 800m freestyle in this event.

Indeed, Alexander is particularly strong in the 800m freestyle, having already been ranked fifth in Great Britain, for his age group, for this.

Alexander said: “I started swimming as a small child and I just loved being in the water. Freestyle is now my favourite swimming stroke.”

Alexander currently swims for Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club. He trains every day, excluding Sunday, and his intense training schedule means each session typically lasts around two hours

Alexander added: “My swimming schedule is full-on but I manage to fit my homework around it, and my parents are always super supportive about taking me to my training sessions. My dream is to swim at the Olympics!”

All at Wetherby Senior wish Alexander the very best for the Middlesex County Championships 2023!
