Considering Canada

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been hearing more about life at a top Canadian university.

This week our Sixth Form welcomed Karen J’bari from McGill University in Montreal. She delivered an excellent talk to our young people on admission requirements to study in Canada, as well as describing student life on McGill’s campus.

Ms Holmes, Head of Careers at Wetherby Senior, said: “Since more young people are considering Canadian universities, because they are well-regarded and offer a high quality of life, we were very grateful to hear more from Karen about McGill.”

North America remains a top university destination for many at Wetherby Senior. This year, five boys from our Class of 22 started courses in Canada, at either McGill or Toronto University. This includes one Wetherby Senior alumnus who was awarded a prestigious McGill University scholarship.

Ms Holmes added: “Wetherby Senior already has a number of alumni studying in Canada and, considering how inspired our current sixth formers were following Karen’s talk, I can’t wait to see these boys come back in the future, to deliver a similar talk to our younger pupils!”

McGill University remains one of the world’s top institutions, ranked 31st internationally, and first in Canada, in the 2023 QS World University Rankings. Notable alumni and faculty include 12 Nobel laureates and 145 Rhodes Scholars, as well as astronauts, foreign leaders, Academy Award winners, Grammy Award winners, Pulitzer Prize winners, and the current Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
