Ready, steady, maths

Wetherby Senior mathematicians have enjoyed a thrilling Trib relay race where, instead of sprinting down the track with a baton, they answered a series of challenging maths questions.

Cheered on by pupils and staff from their Trib, as well as teachers from our Maths Department, our inter-Trib maths relay took place before half-term, with mathematical success and Trib points up for grabs.

Mr Astbury-Palmer, Head of Maths at Wetherby Senior, explains: “We had two boys from each year group, representing each Trib. Each pair were given two questions, tailored to their year and mathematical studies, and we began with our Year 7 competitors answering their questions. Once they had done this, their answers were quickly checked and, if they were correct, then their Trib’s Year 8 pair started their questions. Once these answers were checked and correct, then their Year 9 pair started and so on. It was just like a relay race but involving maths!”

“Congratulations to our winning Trib – Walbrook! Jeremy B and Lorenzo S completed their Year 13 questions in record-breaking time after Enlai R and Oliver B did their Year 11 questions and filled in for their Year 12 Trib pair who were absent!”

Headmaster, Mr Silvester, added: “Thank you to our Maths Department for organising our inter-Trib maths relay and well done to all who took part in such a fantastic, fun and challenging event.”

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
