Our roving reporter

Year 8 pupil, Felipe, is one of the writers for Wetherby Senior’s pupil-led newspaper, The Barometer.

“I started writing for The Barometer in Year 7, after hearing a sixth former talk about it in assembly. It sounded like working on The Barometer would be fun and, since I am considering a future career in journalism, I decided to give it a go.

“We produce a copy of The Barometer every half-term and you can write about (almost!) anything that you want – sport, films, football, events at Wetherby Senior, and more. My first article was about US politics which I really enjoyed, as it meant I had to read lots of interesting articles for my background research. For the final edition of The Barometer, before the summer 2022 holiday, I produced an article about cricket. I loved writing this, as cricket is a real passion of mine!

“Last year, along with the sixth former who was the then editor of The Barometer, I interviewed our Headmaster for the newspaper. I had to think up different questions to ask him about his time, so far, at Wetherby Senior, and that was a great experience for me.

“Even if you are not thinking of becoming a journalist, I would really recommend pupils get involved in writing and producing The Barometer. It is a lot of fun and a great way to express yourself!”
