The great outdoors

From abseiling to zip wires, Wetherby Senior pupils have been exploring the south coast on their residential trips.

Last week saw our new Year 7 cohort visit PGL Windmill Hill, in West Sussex. This outdoor centre is well established in providing activities and experiences for young people, with a focus on teamwork and social skills development. For our School’s youngest pupils, it was a great opportunity to enjoy raft building, abseiling, zip wires and more during their three-day stay.

Ms Nash, Head of Lower School, said: “Our Year 7 boys faced their fears by taking part in activities like trapeze, which involved climbing a pole, standing on a tiny platform, and then jumping off to catch a bar in front!

“What stood out for me was how supportive all our boys were of each other – particularly when some were nervous about trying some activities.”

At the same time, our Year 9 cohort headed further along the coast, to Brenscombe Outdoor Centre in Dorset. Ms Dodson, Head of Middle School, said: “We were lucky to enjoy some great weather, which only served to highlight the stunning coastal views around us! Our boys really enjoyed abseiling down the cliff faces in Dorset, and a night walk to Corfe Castle (plus hot chocolate!) also proved popular.”

Taking place early in the academic year, Wetherby Senior’s welcome residentials are a great way for new boys in Years 7 and 9, our two main entry points, to get to know each other, whilst building friendships, confidence and independence through fun outdoor adventures.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
