Headmaster’s blog 23/09/22

Although it has been a shorter week, due to Monday’s public holiday, there has been much to keep all at Wetherby Senior busy.

We have seen the return of Years 7 and 9 from their residential trips, pupils have been photographed by Gillman and Soames, and a group of sixth formers, selected via a competitive process, have taken part in their first Young Enterprise meeting with peers from Queen’s College, London. All of this has, of course, taken place alongside our usual lessons and co-curricular programme, including sports fixtures.

On Wednesday, we held our US University Forum, for those in Year 10-12 thinking of future study in the USA. With attendance by representatives from a number of North American colleges, such as Tulane, Northeastern and Florida, this was a useful and informative event, forming part of the higher education support that we are proud to offer our boys.

Next week will include further activity in this area, with our Sixth Form taster afternoon for Year 11 on Wednesday 28th September. All in Year 11, plus parents, are then strongly advised to attend our Sixth Form information evening, from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, at Hannah House. This will be a chance for you to hear from our Sixth Form team and find out about A Level options at our subject fair. Please RSVP here, and I look forward to seeing many of you then.

While we continue to nurture the ambitions of current pupils, we are also opening our doors to future ones! As explained before the summer, our Open Day will take place on Saturday 1st October. I am delighted to say that Wetherby Senior’s growing popularity means this event is now full, and has a healthy waiting list, with around 250 families booked to attend.

For our newest parents, the process of choosing a secondary school may still be quite fresh. However, I’m sure all in this email group can recall what a big decision it was, and can agree that open day attendance provided an important insight into a school’s ethos and learning culture, as you assessed your son’s options.

Your son’s participation in our Open Day on Saturday 1st October will not only build his transferable skills (including confidence and public speaking) but enable him to act as an ambassador for Wetherby Senior. If you have not already done so, please RSVP your son’s attendance via our School Post email. I’d like to end by thanking all pupils and staff for giving up next Saturday to support Wetherby Senior, and enabling prospective pupils and families to see what life is like behind our trademark red doors.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
