GCSE results 2022

Congratulations to Wetherby Senior’s Year 11 on achieving excellent GCSE results – including a string of top grades – in summer 2022.

Despite the heavy rain outside, there was much to smile about in Marylebone on GCSE Results Day 2022, with Wetherby Senior’s Year 11 achieving the following top grades in their exams:
• Grade 9 = 28.5%
• Grade 9-8 = 52%
• Grade 9-7 = 75%

Under the current system, 9 to 7 grades correspond to the old-style top grades of A* and A. The above results show Wetherby Senior pupils strongly bucking the national trend where, according to The Guardian, just 27% of GCSE grades awarded were 9-7.

Pictured, below, after braving the rain to collect his results is current Year 11 pupil, Andrew. He achieved a string of grades 9 to 7 and is now set to join Wetherby Senior’s Sixth Form. Andrew said: “I’m really pleased with my GCSE results and excited to start Year 12 at Wetherby Senior this autumn. I am planning to study A Levels in History, Economics, Politics and either Maths or Chemistry.”

Headmaster, Joe Silvester, said: “Congratulations to our Year 11 on such superb results, following two challenging years due to the pandemic. I’d also like to thank Wetherby Senior staff and parents for their support and encouragement of our outgoing Year 11, particularly during unprecedented periods of remote learning and lockdown.

“Our Year 11 should feel very proud of their GCSE achievements, which reflects their hard work, commitment, and determination. Today’s results will enable our young people to pursue their further ambitions and goals, and I look forward to welcoming many into our successful Sixth Form.”

GCSE Results Day 2022 follows a fantastic A Level Results Day last week, which saw a 100% pass rate and Year 13 boys set to join world-leading universities across the UK, continental Europe, and North America.

Of Wetherby Senior’s sixth formers starting university this autumn, nearly half will study outside the UK, with 9 boys joining a US college (including our first Ivy League institution, University of Pennsylvania), 5 studying in Canada (at McGill or Toronto University) and 4 heading across continental Europe. Of Wetherby Senior’s sixth formers staying in the UK for their higher education studies, the vast majority now join top Russell Group universities.
