Uni destinations 2022

Wetherby Senior’s Class of 22 are set to join prestigious universities in the UK, across continental Europe and in North America.

Following the first in-person exams since 2019, due to the global pandemic, Wetherby Senior’s sixth formers have achieved a string of outstanding results, including 20% of sixth formers being awarded all grades A* to A, and 85% of the cohort have been accepted by their first choice course and university.

As part of Wetherby Senior’s commitment to supporting boys in their higher education ambitions, our Class of 22 will now take up places on a range of courses at world class institutions. Of those staying in the UK, 70% will join Russell Group universities. Members of our outgoing Year 13 will be joining institutions in London (such as Imperial College London, UCL and King’s College London) and across the UK, including Manchester, Edinburgh, Exeter and York.

In addition, of our sixth formers starting university this autumn, 43% have applied to study outside the UK. This means:

• 9 sixth formers will now join a US college

  • We have our first Wetherby Senior alumnus at an Ivy League institution (University of Pennsylvania)
  • One Wetherby Senior alumnus successfully applied for the highly competitive Glynn Family Honors Program at the University of Notre Dame
  • Wetherby Senior alumni will also study at: Babson College, New York University (3), Northeastern University, University of Notre Dame, Purdue University, and University of California, Berkeley

• 5 sixth formers will join a Canadian college

  • Wetherby Senior alumnus will study at McGill University or Toronto University
  • This includes one Wetherby Senior alumnus awarded a McGill University scholarship

• 2 sixth formers will join IE University in Spain

• 1 sixth former will join Bocconi University in Italy

• 1 sixth former will join Utrecht University in the Netherlands

As these results show, prestigious North American colleges are proving particularly popular amongst Wetherby Senior’s sixth formers. Mrs Deedat, Head of our Sixth Form, explains: “Studying in North America represent a life-changing experience, offering a chance to explore a wider range of subjects at undergraduate level before declaring your major, as well as enjoying a different culture and way of life first-hand.

“The lure of world-leading American and Canadian universities means increasing numbers of Wetherby Senior’s sixth formers are applying to study across the pond and, in just three years, our Sixth Form has received forty offers for boys to study in the USA. We encourage these ambitions with support from two US university advisors on the complex application process.”

Pictured, below, are Zachary and Samuel. Both are now heading to North America, with Samuel joining McGill University in Canada and Zachary set to study game design and animation at Northeastern University in Boston. Speaking on A Level Results Day 2022, Zachary said: “Wetherby Senior’s US Advisor offered advice and guidance on the complicated process of applying to study in the States, particularly regarding the writing of my common application essay. I am really looking forward to starting my course at Northeastern and will be flying out to Boston on Friday, so I have some packing to do now that I have my A Level results!”

Mrs Deedat added: “We wish all our leavers every success and look forward to welcoming them back to Wetherby Senior in the years to come, so they can recount their experiences and inspire our current Wetherby Senior pupils.”
