Mathematical marvels

However you add it up, Wetherby Senior pupils have achieved our School’s best ever result in the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge.

After taking part in this year’s national competition, our pupils were awarded 38 bronze certificates and 13 silvers, in addition to a Wetherby Senior record of seven gold certificates.

Head of Mathematics, Mr Astbury-Palmer, said: “Well done to all at Wetherby Senior who took part in the Immediate Mathematical Challenge – what a fantastic result! A special mention must go to Leo (pictured below), who achieved a gold certificate and the best score in our School, which is an incredible feat for someone in Year 9.”

Certificates were given out, before the Easter holiday, in assembly. Other pupils awarded a gold certificate were: Jaime (also best in Year 11), Nikita (also best in Year 10), Enlai, John, Pranav, and Oliver.

Now 25 years old, the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge is a national competition for those in Years 9,10 and 11. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in a wide variety of mathematical techniques in order to solve interesting problems.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
