Wetherby Senior and Juliet

Wetherby Senior’s youngest pupils have been wowed in the West End, enjoying & Juliet, a critically acclaimed re-working of the world’s most famous love story.

As part of Friday’s Field Day, our Year 7 cohort took a short walk to Shaftesbury Theatre to see the award-winning stage musical, which was nominated for nine Laurence Olivier Awards in 2020. Featuring music by pop songwriter Max Martin, & Juliet focuses on a “what if” scenario, imagining what would happen if Juliet did not die at the end of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Our pupils were full of praise for & Juliet, with Yu describing it as, “Dramatic and memorable”, Felipe saying, “It had the most brilliant Act One that I’ve ever seen”, and Alex adding, “The music was great!”

For our Year 7, this theatre trip followed an exciting morning of workshops at our Marylebone Lane Drama Studio, exploring a range of topics related to Romeo and Juliet in a fun and informative manner. (See picture, below).

Pupils inspired by last Friday’s work are reminded that Years 7 to 9 can audition for our forthcoming Lower School production, The Useless Tree, this week. Auditions in our Drama Studio will be at 1:20pm on Wednesday 23rd March for Year 9 and at 1:20pm on Thursday 24th March for Years 7 and 8.

Our Lower School production of The Useless Tree takes place on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th June, with all expected to attend a rehearsal on Sunday 26th June. For more information, please speak to Mr Tibbles.
