Shave the date

The month of November is growing on a group of Wetherby Senior staff and pupils, as they join a global campaign raising awareness of men’s health issues.

Until December, teachers from our Sport Department and a number of our sixth formers will be putting aside their razors and growing moustaches for Movember. An annual event, the Movember campaign sees men around the world grow facial hair during the month of November, to increase understanding of men’s health issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide.

Mr Tucker, from our Sport Department, explain: “As a boys’ school, we were all very keen to take part in Movember and see it as a great opportunity to raise awareness of, and funds to support, men’s health, particularly mental health.

“The rate of male suicide in the UK alone is alarmingly high, with three out of four suicides by men. As a charity, Movember looks at mental health through a male lens, focusing on prevention, early intervention, and health promotion. They work towards a world where men can take action to be mentally well and well are supported by those around them.”
