Wetherby Senior’s Geography Department trip to Crete saw boys explore dramatic landscapes and experience a rich and fascinating culture.
Oscar, currently in Year 12, took part in this visit during half-term. He said: “Sunshine, swimming, and spectacular Greek food in the middle of October – what could be better!
“Our Geography Department’s half-term trip to Crete was one filled with memories: genuinely incredible geology that made me (even though I am already studying A Level Geography!) really fall in love with physical geography for the first time, climbing and taking an obscene number of pictures inside the world’s oldest olive tree, snorkelling in incredible azure water, and being almost overwhelmed by masses of incredible food.
“There were laughs aplenty throughout the week – except for when Ms Maroudi nearly managed to lose a game that she had played her whole life, while it was our very first round….
“Back in a slightly dreary London, with rapidly shortening days and the winter season’s first drops of rain, I think we all now envy ourselves, and where we were, just two weeks ago!”
Following a series of successful trips in recent years to Croatia, Italy, Greece and the Azores, Wetherby Senior’s Geography Department was delighted to take boys to Crete, where they enjoyed walking along Samaria gorge (the longest gorge in Europe) and snorkelling in the sea, visited olive groves and caves, and experienced traditional dishes, music and dancing.
