Class of 23 – Jamie

Year 13, Jamie, has offers to read economics and finance at a number of top Russell Group universities, including Glasgow and Manchester.

“I joined Wetherby Senior in Year 9 and can honestly say it has become a second home to me. I settled in immediately partly, I think, because our School’s size and welcoming community makes it the perfect stepping stone from a primary school. With just over 400 pupils at Wetherby Senior, you quicky make friends and get to know your teachers, and you don’t have to worry about feeling overwhelmed or lost.

“Throughout my years at Wetherby Senior, I have always been impressed by the high-quality teaching. Class sizes remain fairly small, especially in our Sixth Form, and all our teachers are experts in their fields and very enthusiastic, so you are really inspired to learn and go beyond the curriculum.

“My time in our Sixth Form has been brilliant, with many further responsibilities and opportunities. For example, as a Senior Prefect, I was the head of one of our Tribs (houses), so provided leadership and acted as role model to younger boys. In addition, during Year 12, I took part in Young Enterprise, with friends from Wetherby Senior and a group of sixth formers from a nearby girls’ school. Over eight months, we met weekly to run our small business and even took part in a competition, where we had to speak about our project in front of over 100 people. It was a fantastic experience – I really recommend taking part in Young Enterprise!

“My class teachers were very helpful when I began to think about university options and I applied to read economics and finance, since I find both subjects fascinating and know they can open doors to many future careers.”
