Headmaster’s blog 27/01/23

This week has included our GCSE Options Evening for Year 9 parents, and our first Careers and Canapes event for Year 11 parents to find out more about work experience and professional development for their son. Many of our football and rugby teams have been in action, while a group of our boys were in the room where it happened on Monday, watching the award-winning Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

As we move through the first part of this Spring Term, there is plenty more in the diary, including a visit and talk by the Lord Mayor of Westminster on Monday 6th February. This promises to be a fantastic chance to celebrate the work of Councillor Hamza Taouzzale, the youngest ever councillor elected to the City, and a good opportunity for our young people to hear more about this role and about UK politics. While all in Year 12 will be expected to attend this event at 4pm, we are opening the Lord Mayor’s talk up to other year groups. If your son would like to join, then he should sign up here.

We also look forward to seeing Year 13 pupils and parents at next Wednesday’s parents’ evening and Year 10 parents at our careers event (An Introduction to the Competitive Advantage Programme) on Thursday. This will outline our professional development for pupils from Year 10 onwards, starting with the Morrisby test, and email invites have been sent to all parents.

Our School’s strong record in supporting higher education ambitions has just been featured in Independent School Parent and I’m delighted to say that, this week, our Deputy Head Boy was accepted to the University of Cambridge. Congratulations to Benjamin, who will feature in the next few weeks on our website and social media channels. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy reading the Independent School Parent article and our profile on current Year 13 Edward, who is applying to a number of top UK institutions.
