Rugby returns to Wetherby Senior

Wetherby Senior pupils tackled a new challenge, trying their best in a rugby match, this week.

On Wednesday, our Wetherby Senior 1st XV rugby team made their return to competitive fixtures against a strong squad from UCS.

Mr Davey, Director of Sport, said: “Comprised of boys from Years 11, 12 and 13, our Wetherby Senior side included some players who had never taken part a competitive match before, and all were eager to represent our School.

“There were many impressive players and moments in the game. Andrew H (as team captain) led from the front in defence and attack, and was rewarded with a try for his efforts. Matteo S scored a try after a blistering run through the heart of the defence. Nicholas S, in his first game of rugby, demonstrated dominant carries and sturdy defence. In addition, Adrian L, Christos L and Aria A were livewires around the pitch, and were also taking part in their first ever match.”

Mr Davey added: “In a game of two halves, our boys did themselves, and our School, proud. They have set a great foundation to build upon and progress from, which I am excited to see develop.”

Our Wetherby Senior team have their next fixture against Fulham Boys School on Wednesday 6th December, with further matches after the Christmas holiday and a 7’s tournaments to look forward to.
