All the world’s a football pitch

Wetherby Senior’s GCSE Drama pupils happily combined their love of football and theatre last week.

Our Year 11 pupils headed to the Bush Theatre in west London, to enjoy the smash-hit, sold out production, Red Pitch. This fast-paced and sharp-edged play is a powerful story of gentrification versus regeneration, when three football-obsessed friends discover their beloved local football pitch may be under threat.

Ms Vickers, Head of Drama at Wetherby Senior, accompanied our boys to the production. She said: “Not only did our GCSE Drama boys get to see a fantastic play, they also met with members of the cast and other industry professionals at the theatre.

“On a personal note, I have to say that our Year 11 pupils were brilliant ambassadors for Wetherby Senior and excellent company. It was a lovely evening for all of us at the theatre.”

Some of our GCSE Drama pupils are pictured, below, with Kedar Williams-Stirling, who stars as Bilal in Red Pitch and is also known for his roles on TV, in Sex Education and Small Axe.

Red Pitch has been nominated for and won a number of awards, including Best New Play at the Off West End Awards, while writer Tyrell Williams has been named Most Promising Playwright (Evening Standard Theatre Awards), Best Writer (The Stage Debut Awards) and Most Promising Playwright (Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards)
