Vive la French football tournament

A Wetherby Senior pupil have taken part in one of the world’s biggest youth football tournaments.

Currently in Year 7, Giacomo, headed to France for the prestigious Mondial U12 Le Mans Tournament this June. Playing defensive midfield for his club, Giacomo took part in matches against other leading teams during the two-day tournament, with his squad able to reach the quarter finals.

Giacomo said: “Even though we didn’t win the tournament, it was a brilliant experience and I loved taking part in matches against top teams and fantastic footballers.

“I’ve been playing football all my life and I currently train with an elite academy, RC Lens. This means I have at least five training sessions a week, plus matches on a Saturday. I have to fit all of this around my homework but it is worth it – I love football!”

Great work, Giacomo!
