Sibling stars

Regularly rehearsing for our Wetherby Senior Lower School play means our young cast form a close bond. However, for Theo in Year 9, one of his co-stars is even more familiar – she’s his sister!

For the first time since Covid, Wetherby Senior’s latest production also includes actors from nearby girls’ school, Francis Holland, Regent’s Park. And, after seeing how much Theo had enjoyed taking part in past Wetherby Senior productions, it is no surprise that his sibling was also keen to star too.

Theo explains: “I auditioned for The Government Inspector because I love drama and have loved taking part in our School productions. Wetherby Senior always puts on high quality, original plays that give you lots of opportunities to take on different roles, so you can really advance and stretch your acting skills.

The Government Inspector is a really fun play so it has been great to welcome my sister and her friends to our rehearsals, and to work together on this amazing production.”

Translated and updated from the original Russian by Wetherby Senior’s Mr Tibbles, who is also directing, The Government Inspector is a farcical comedy about a local government office, which spirals into a flurry of flattery and bribery when a foppish inspector turns up out of the blue. Set in 1970s, in a UK seaside town, it explores themes of mistaken identity, deception, and government corruption.

Theo added: “Another great aspect of taking part in Wetherby Senior productions is that you don’t have to take on a huge role. At audition stage, you can say if you prefer a smaller part, which means you are not needed at every single rehearsal. So you can still take part in a fantastic drama production but also juggle this involvement alongside any other commitments or schoolwork.

“However, I have quite a large role in The Government Inspector, so I do have to be at most of the rehearsals. I still have some lines left to learn!”

The Government Inspector will be at 7pm on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th June, in our School’s Marylebone Lane Drama Studio. Tickets are now available on ParentPay.
