In good company

Wetherby Senior’s Young Enterprise team made it to the finals of the Young Enterprise Company of the Year Awards 2023, Central and North London Showcase.

Our sixth formers established their Young Enterprise company following a competitive process where each had to send Ms Holmes, our Head of Careers, a written application and take part in a group meeting to show their dedication and commitment. All received feedback on their application and were then assigned roles, such as marketing or finance, for their new business.

Ms Holmes explains: “Our Young Enterprise team showed amazing resilience and impressive skills in pivoting – they really came together as a group after a setback and started over. They set up their organisational structure, raised funds, brought their product idea to life, and developed a marketing plan. They believed in their company so much, that despite the short preparation time, they still entered this competition and got to the finals!

“This prestigious event took place at Pearson College, and saw our boys get grilled by three judges, before presenting their company and achievements to an auditorium full of judges and competitors.”

While involvement in Young Enterprise builds many key employability skills, participation in this competition final meant our sixth formers had to pull together as a team, working to deliver a fantastic presentation, while taking on board constructive feedback in a competitive environment.

Ms Holmes added: “I’d like to thank both Sharon Davies and Tara Bell, from Young Enterprise, who took the time to share invaluable advice on management and presentation skills with our sixth formers.

“I have to say it has been an immense pleasure to see our sixth formers grow and develop through involvement in Young Enterprise, and I think the pictures (below and on our Careers Instagram page) show how much we all enjoyed the experience!”

Young Enterprise is a national charity providing hands-on programmes, resources and training in enterprise and financial education. Since 1962, Young Enterprise has worked with over four million young people.
