Headmaster’s blog 03/03/2023

It has been another busy week in Marylebone, with a talk on careers in law, musical performances (alongside our Spring Recital at Hannah House, our Year 10 woodwind players headed off to entertain the Penfold Community), our Visitor Morning for prospective families, numerous World Book Day activities (including an author visit), and last night’s University Fair, with over 30 different institutions represented.

We also concluded this week with our Futures Day, as Year 12 learnt more about career opportunities and professional development, plus a number of workshops and activities as part of our PSHE programme for other year groups. News stories for these events are on our website, while we’ll have more information about Futures Day shortly, and thank you to all the staff who made this fantastically busy week happen.

Next week, we hold our Year 7 parents’ evening on Monday and there are a number of sports fixtures in the calendar, alongside our usual lessons and co-curricular activities.

Indeed, Ms Twomey informs me that rehearsals are well underway for our Trib Drama competition later this month. This production is entirely pupil-led, with each Trib performing a different scene from a given play. By selecting their own director, assistant director and actors from within their Trib, our boys get a wonderful chance to develop their dramatic skills, both on- and off-stage. This year’s production has the intriguing title of Cockroaches, and we will let both pupils and parents know when tickets go on sale.

Finally, a reminder that there are a number of exciting competitions and opportunities for our young people, particularly our sixth formers, to consider. This includes the ISA essay writing competition (speak to Ms Mendes), a Financial Times competition, and the chance to take part in a 60-mile bike ride to raise funds for Action for XP (speak to Mrs Deedat).
