Chess champ

Check out Wetherby Senior sixth former, Arjan, who has qualified for the 2023 EJOCA National Youth Chess Championship.

Arjan, currently in Year 12, came first in the Under 18 section of the National Youth Chess Championships Zonal for the Southern Counties last weekend. This success means he will compete again in July, taking part in the national finals for the prestigious English Junior Coaches and Organisers Association (EJOCA) competition.

Mr Silvester, Wetherby Senior’s Headmaster, said: “Well done to Arjan on this fantastic achievement! We wish you all the best in the 2023 EJOCA National Youth Chess Championship this summer.”

The EJCOA aims to promote and advance chess for those under the age of 18, with their National Youth Chess Championship designed to improve chess standards and give young people across England an opportunity to challenge themselves.
