Our marvellous mathematician

Year 11 pupil, Enlai, is doing exceptionally well in mathematics at Wetherby Senior.

“Maths is one of my favourite subjects. I like that, while maths is an objective subject – there is a clear right or wrong answer to a maths problem – it is also very creative.

“Wetherby Senior’s Maths Department is full of brilliant teachers who are all very supportive and inspiring. For example, before the half-term holiday, I took part in our Trib relay maths race, arranged by our Maths Department. Each pair of boys had to answer two questions correctly, before the next pair (in the next year group) could answer their questions. It was a great way for our Maths Department to get everyone enjoying the subject and having fun.

“In addition, Wetherby Senior’s Maths Department encouraged and supported my decision to complete my GCSE Mathematics a year earlier, so I now have the time to study my GCSE Further Mathematics, while exploring content for A Level Mathematics early. I am, of course, thinking about my A Level options and would like to take both A Level Mathematic and A Level Further Mathematics.

“I recently took part in the UK Mathematics Trust Senior Maths Challenge – one of the UK’s most popular school maths competitions that encourages reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. I was awarded Gold, which is only achieved by the top 8-9% of entrants, so I was very happy!”
