Treading the boards

Paul, in Year 12, has one of the main roles in Wetherby Senior’s Upper School play, set to be performed at RADA on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th December.

“I was very keen to audition for our Upper School play as, although I joined Wetherby Senior in Year 9, I’d only been able to take part in one School production, due to pandemic restrictions. So, in December 2021, I took part in our School play, Neville’s Island, which was a great experience. I really enjoyed working with boys from other years, as well as learning more about how to speak and act in front of a large audience.

“We are currently rehearsing Bus Stop three or four times a week, although I still need to learn my last lines! It is great fun – there is a real sense of teamwork and camaraderie. Ms Twomey, Head of Drama at Wetherby Senior, co-wrote the play and is our director. She is doing such an amazing job – she knows exactly what she wants all of us to achieve and she is great at getting everything done. I’m sure the play is going to be fantastic and so much of that is going to be down to her.

“To any younger pupils, thinking of taking part in our Upper School play when in Years 10-13, I would say – go for it! Taking part in drama productions at Wetherby Senior is a great opportunity to perform on stage (Bus Stop will be at RADA on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th December) and a chance to work with professional set, lighting, and costume designers, who are invited in to support Wetherby Senior productions.

“Don’t forget – tickets for Bus Stop are now on sale via RADA’s website!”
